Crazy to think what's going on a couple thousand miles away from where we live could impact our sky conditions. There are actually several wildfires raging across Alberta spewing large amounts of smoke into the atmosphere and reducing visibility in Canadian cities, such as Calgary and Edmonton, and even sending smoke high into the atmosphere over the northern portion of the United States.
Here's a look at our current satellite. You can easily pick up on where the high haze is. Note the storm moving off shore with the low level clouds. Your weather app is saying "sunny" because the automatic observations from the sensors only measure cloud cover below 12k feet.
This is a model that shows where smoke is across the nation. Yup... we are in the thick of things. You may just smell a little something smoky too if your senses are strong enough!
