It's that time of year again! I'm not talking about colder temps (yes...THOSE are coming...) I'm talking about the crazy snow posts 6 days in advance of a storm system that likely doesn't materialize the way projected from so far out. We see these posts ALL the time now. It's just part of our every day routine once we get into the colder months. I always tell people that social media is a gift and a curse. It's a gift because we can connect INSTANTLY to thousands of people and get the weather message out there. It's a curse obviously because there is disinformation EVERYWHERE and that's not exclusive to weather, either.
The EURO shows something a bit more sizable... at least it's an organized storm... but not cold enough by the time it comes through. There could be some snow over the pocono mountains on Friday morning and like I said above, some wet snow flakes for us, but that's about it.
So you can see the disagreement amongst those two models clearly, right? They will start to trend in one direction or the other by late tomorrow. We look for a consensus. Right now, none exists. There really is no point in trying to hash out a forecast this IS going to change. By Wednesday we will have a solid idea.
The EURO snow map looks like this:
Something I'm SURE of happening? The cold air. By Friday morning we should be down into the 30s. Highs that day only in the low to middle 40s... we keep those temps consistent for the entirety of the weekend. The NEXT chance of a storm along the coast would come in next Tuesday. Wayyyyy off in the distance but the signal is there. I like the signal much better as it develops some sort of coastal entity and the cold air is already in place. Still SEVERAL days to watch this and my comment is in no way any sort of forecast... just showing you what's going on and what may be down the pipeline.
It's not impossible to see snow this time of the year (last year we had a pretty big event early in the season) it's just harder to get to happen.
And a quick look at the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) shows us getting into the colder phases which propagate over to our region 10-15 days later... Yeah. November is going to be a below average month in the temp department for sure!
Not ready to break out the BME index (Bread Milk Egg Index)... JUST YET... Stay tuned!
